International conferences and events
The 2018 Servas International General Assembly will be held in South Korea, in October. More details will be available nearer the time. The previous General Assembly was held in New Zealand from October 10th-17th 2015. Servas Britain was represented at the Assembly by Ruth Allen, Joint National Secretary – External Affairs, and Margaret Seelig, our former Peace Secretary. Detailed reports of the Assembly can be found on the Servas International website.
A Servas event took place from 16th to 23rd June 2014 at the Dalesbridge Centre in the Yorkshire Dales, UK, the venue for the 2007 Servas Youth meeting. This was a joint venture between Servas International and Servas Britain.
It was a chance for Servas friends, old and new, to enjoy time together whilst also thinking about where we go next as an organisation. This was an informal meeting with no motions, votes or decisions, with time and space to explore and debate important issues about the future of Servas.
In addition to the Servas international meetings, there are regular European events, where Servas members get together to discuss Servas issues and socialise. Recent events have been held in France, the UK and Poland.
Servas and travel in South America
In 2008, Servas was featured in a series of articles in the Guardian newspaper by journalist Vicky Baker, who wrote about her experience of travelling for three months in South America using different hospitality networks. If you missed these, you can read the whole series on the Guardian’s website.
